Made by Steven

Creating practical apps and developer tools. I'm Steven, a developer at CloudSuite, based in Aalsmeer in the Netherlands.

After hours I build the tools I want to exist: self-hosted apps, Home Assistant add-ons, hardware dashboards and small utilities for my Arch setup. Most of it is Python and TypeScript, and most of it runs on a Kubernetes cluster in my own homelab.

What I build

Apps and web tools

Self-hosted web apps and tools that run in a browser or on a phone, mostly FastAPI or TypeScript.

  • retrospekt: Self-hosted retrospective board with Vite, Lit, FastAPI, MongoDB and SSE.
  • guidr: Step-by-step guide runner for Android and iOS, with timed steps, notifications and progress tracking.
  • deq-tune: Pioneer DEQ equalizer profiles, in the browser.
  • changewatch: Code-defined change monitors with FastAPI and Playwright.
  • Dude, Where's My Package?: Package tracking for Dutch carriers: REST API, background poller and a Chrome extension.

Home automation and hardware

Home Assistant add-ons, ESPHome components and ESP32 hardware for around the house.

  • inknook: Wall-mounted e-paper dashboard in a photo frame: ESP32, ESPHome and a FastAPI backend.
  • esphome-vl53l1x: ESPHome external component for the VL53L1X time-of-flight distance sensor.
  • ha-card-designer: Drag-and-drop Lovelace card designer for Home Assistant, with live card preview and YAML copy-out.

Desktop and Linux

Small utilities for a Linux desktop, written in Python with GTK.

  • wallpaper-picker: GTK wallpaper picker for X11: fetches from Wallhaven, with blacklist, shuffle and a systemd timer.
  • crappy: A floating desktop assistant that pops up with unhelpful advice. Spiritual successor to Clippy.

What I'm working on now

Commits, pull requests, issues and reviews on GitHub and GitLab over the last twelve months, merged into one calendar. The streak counts consecutive days with at least one contribution. Time spent in the editor over the last seven days, measured by Wakapi, a self-hosted WakaTime-compatible tracker, split by language and editor. See this week's numbers.
